If you want dimebag's tone, get a dimebucker. But checkout the Dimarzio X2n.

Ditch the Mesa, get a Randall Solid State, turn the mids to 0, dimebag tone right there, or just buy a Boss Metal Zone and put the mids at 0.

You want some insane output
Beefbucker, hottest pickup that I know of, makes EMG's look like a tiny girl http://www.rockmonkeyguitars.com/beefbucker.htm

Barenuckle Warpig: Still makes EMG's look like a little girl: http://www.guitarasylum.com/product_pages/bare-knuckle/bare-knuckle-warpig-uncovered.html

Dimarzio ToneZone, about the same output as a EMG, but 10 times more versatile : http://www.amazon.com/DiMarzio-Tone-Zone-Humbucker-Pickup/dp/B0002D0M1C

I was going to suggest a Bill Lawrence L500XL, I mean considering that's what Dime used and he's looking for a Dime tone. But okay guys.

That.

My friend has one in his CFH ML (he loves Dean guitars) and I thought it sounded quite good, even through our POS amps.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Feel free to express yours so I can make an informed judgement about how stupid you are.

For Dimebag tone you will need the type of amp he was using. PUPs alone are not enough.
#16
Yeah... You need a Randall Solid State to nail his tone. He used a Bill Lawrence L500XL for a long time, and towards the end of his career/life he started using the Dimebucker, which I personally believe was a downgrade from his Bill Lawrence.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

DON'T get a dimebucker if you are looking for Dime's tone.
If you are looking for the 90's Pantera tone get a Lawrence XL500. That's what he actually used. The Dimebucker was made just a couple years before his death.
I'm actually trying to sell my XL500 if your interested send me a PM.

But that's the definitely what wil get you Dime's tone.

A couple great pickups for metal are the Dimarzio X2N, Dimarzio D-Activator.
A little bit lower output pickup that also sounds really awesome is a Duncan JB.

Out of curiosity TS, do you see yourself still wanting Dime's tone in a year or so? In the long run, you might wanna strive for a tone that isn't trebly buzzsaw and suitable for things other than Pantera covers.

This. I mean, if you like ultra scooped mids and 'Gain from Hell' then sure, his tone is for you.
