I listen to music often and just recently started playing guitar in March. Yesterday, me and a few friends got together and decided to start a band. I've previously written a few songs already in the tuning of drop C on my acoustic before I got my electric. I've been writing basic punk songs on the guitar cause they're short and easy to write. I realize most punk songs are in half-step tuning, but I created a few great powerchord and barre chord progressions and a mini-solo in the tuning of drop C. Well, just wondering would the song still be considered punk despite the drop C tuning?

Does it sound punk? If so, then yes. If not, then no. Simple as that. A genre is not defined by a tuning, let alone one that is not always used in the genre.
