I'm pretty sure he just played cleanly (not letting any excess noise through). But really, I don't exactly see what you mean.

It's all distorted. I believe the parts you're referring to are notes played on one string (clean) versus multiple strings which sounds dirty

double stops... search them... play 13 on the b string and 12 on the g string at the same time while bend 12 on the g string up a whole step... or you could play 13 on the high e and 13 on the b string while bending the b string up a whole step.. I think this is the effect u r talkin about
