What would you do if you found out one of your parents was having an affair?

#1
I was watching the Freaks And Geeks episode in which Neal discovers that his father is having an affair. So, it got me wondering about different peoples' reactions to such a situation.

What would you imagine your reaction would be?

Also, has this actually ever happened to anyone here?

Post away, comrades.

My mother is deceased. My father is 82. If he's getting laid I'm buying him a beer.

Found out a few years ago my dad had been cheating on my mum for over a year. Then he left us, with no money, to go on holiday with her, my mum had to go to the womens shelter to get us food, he tried to take the house from us and bankrupt us.

I never did much of anything, i released hes a selfish prick and isn't worth my time of day, ill never frogive him for it though, ill never respect him again, it was my mums own stupid decision to take him back for whatever reason.

Now he walks around the house complaining about everything and everyone. So i generally tell him to go **** himself when kicks off a shitstorm about cereal bowls left on the side and whatever other isignificant excuses he can use to act like hes better than everyone. You'd think after all that hed at least try and earn his trust and respect back. But nooo.

If my dad would...I'd understand cause my mom is always nervous, angry and always yelling and shit. But if my mom would have it I'd seriously never want to see her again.

For parents to split up is one thing, but for one to go behind the others back & behind their kids is a disgraceful thing to do. i'd find it hard to look my dad/mum in the eye if it ever happened to me...

My dad cheated on my ma'.

I was one at the time, so I probably reacted by crying and shitting myself.

Business as usual, then.

Depends, if it's my dad then I'd tell my mum, if it was my mum then I'd tell my dad's girlfriend and let them sort it out.

I'd be shocked. Shocked that there'd be someone dumb enough to have a relationship with one of them.

I'd probably lash out at whoever was having the affair if I found out on the spot.

Doubt I could live with them anymore, whether the other forgave them or not. I was betrayed almost as much as the loyal parent was.

Of course this is only if family life was as it is now before the affair. If there were problems before I'd probably be less surprised and more understanding.

If it was my da is probably high-five the man before swiftly punching him in the gut and fleeing like a crab!

If it was my ma i'd tell her i wasnt angry...i was just disappointed.

i'd probably just cry, do a lot of yelling and throwing things and never talk to the offending party again.

Wow, I would be so pissed about the situation and avoid the parent who cheated for a really long time, which is crazy for me because I'm very close to both of my parents.

If it was my mother, I'd leave her to her own devices, thinking that she's being very silly. If it was my Dad, I'd kick off a fuss and create a violent argument which could potentially ruin our relationship forever.
#22
Hmmm... thats a kinda hard question...

Me and my dad are really close so i guess if she was hot i'd be like "Good job, but you should probably stop". If shes not i'd be all "dumbass, you should really stop."

If i found out about my mom... its complicated there i'd probably tell my mom to leave, like really, and then i'd tell my dad...

EDIT: I wouldn't take sides though, i would definitely move out either way.

My mom cheated on my dad about four years ago with a guy she met at AA 'cause my brother has a drinking problem. I didn't know that was why she was leaving him, or why they were getting divorced at the time. By the time I found out her personality had already changed enough, from years before when she had been nice, so that I already hated her, and it just added to that. I no longer talk to her at all, and haven't seen her since I moved out of her house, after living with her for only three weeks in four years, without telling her about 9 months ago. Oh, also, the guy she cheated with is now her husband and was trying to kick me out.

If my mom was cheating on my stepdad, I would just lol. If he was cheating on her, he would die a painful death, and probably not by my hands.

My real dad has no significant other to cheat on, so if hes getting laid, then theres no problem.

Well, we were on a trip to Wally World, and we were staying at a hotel. And my dad left the room to go to the lobby, where he met a woman and proceeded to go swimming with her naked in the pool. I'm pretty sure my mom knew, because the water was really cold, so when he got in he shouted and woke everyone up.

I'll confront him or her. However, as they have been married for more than 30 years and are in their mid/late 50s, I doubt it'll ever happen.

My Mom thought my Dad was having an affair, he wasn't. Boy those times were weird.

I'm kind of amused by the "outraged" reactions because their parent having an affair doesn't have anything to do with them*.

*In most cases, anyway. There are situations where the parent having the affair ends up ****ing over the whole family because they're a dirtbag. I was just speaking generally.
