Is it? I wanna know cause my parents say it'll cost them a fortune so I shouldn't even try to get in. I wanna know if this is true or not. Thanks.

It is expensive. However, if you really want to go, you should apply for scholarships.

It's expensive, but that's no reason not to apply. The scholarship is entirely dependent on the audition, so you hit everything completely out of the ballpark, there's a chance of a huge scholarship putting it within reach. You'll never know if you don't apply, and all you lose is time, go for it.

Go for it, connect 4 but yeah make sure you apply for the FAFSA and try to get other federal student aid. It doesn't hurt to try so, study, study, study!

The tuition is around $15.5k per semester right now and climbing annually. Compared to other conservatories, ie NEC or Boston Conservatory, this is still reasonable. Depending on your financial situation and audition performance, you can get a reasonable portion covered by scholarships, grants, and loans.

I have almost half covered by scholarships and grants, which I don't have to pay back, and another couple of thousands covered by loans, which I do have to pay back over time. It's manageable. Just make sure to apply for FAFSA and practice for a strong audition. You can also cut costs by living off campus on a good budget and getting a part time job.

At least you spelled the name right. That's a good start.

I've got 2 friends going into their freshman year there, and they both got substantial amounts of scholarship money because they both had really knockout auditions. One of them whose going's dad is a professor there, and he says that, although they do take into consideration your transcript/SAT/education shit as a whole, he says that maybe constitutes 20% of what they consider to take you in, at most.

Your audition is the huge part of both getting in, and getting scholarship toward it, as well as participating in other music programs in your area too. My friend said they really like to see innovation in your audition, something that maybe isn't as conventional or even technical but that can really show off what you bring as a musician.

Holy shit, I'm paying less than that for my freshman year at a four-year university and I'm living on campus.

College tuition varies widely. Being some of the most historical and well known, Boston schools are all very expensive. Boston University, for example, is more than $50,000 per year.

But Boston kicks ass, so I'm willing to pay. I'd much rather be here than UMD ($8,000 per year), where I'd be going for my local state school. Fuck that place.

Although I will agree with you mostly, there are good schools around the city (Umass Boston, Simmons, Lasell in Newton, among other) that aren't as expensive, but that don't have the "prestigious name" of the bigger schools in the area like BU, BC, Emerson & Suffolk.

$15k a semester isn't that bad. Most schools in Boston cost around $50k a year for international students.

UMass is the state school, so naturally it won't be as expensive. Simmons is a small liberal arts college that gears toward women. Haven't heard of Lasell. But yea, it's all about the name.

I go there and yes, it is expensive. A lot of kids have to drop out, a lot of kids have to take out huge loans.

But, in my honest opinion, its the best place on earth to be, and if you really love music and you really think you've got a shot to do something with it, do everything you can to get here

That's still crazy expensive in comparison to over here. Even at Cambridge University, one of the oldest and best universities in the world, the tuition fees for this year is £3290.

TS: Have you ever thought about looking up on their website how much tuition fees are and how to get scholarships and grants?

Tuition is about 15k per semester and another 10k for the year for room and board.

Much cheaper than that if you just find your own place around the area and live on a careful budget.

Just make sure you have strong legs. You'll be doing a lot of standing around on Mass Ave in front of the school with your instrument for absolutely no reason whatsoever like every other Berklee student.

I've been looking for good jazz schools lately and I have learned two very important things:
1. Going to Berklee will earn you the respect guitar center employees (Many of which probably went to Berklee themselves - that's how it is here).
2. Don't go to a music only school, because it's very possible that your interests could shift in those four years.
but regardless, good luck.
