Well my last thread of tube test wasn't a very accurate portrayal of the tubes I tested. This time I have everything squared down. The amp I'm using is a Baron Custom Amps K88 Custom and the DI tracks I'm using are from the Guitar Tracks from Guitar Tone Competition 3 by JeffTD.

Here's the tubes I'm using.

The amp's settings were all set to noon. Even the master so it was loud as **** in here.

Alright, I'm going to organize this as best I can.

I recorded using 1 guitar from the DIs and two guitars form the DIs.

Here's the set of tracks with the single guitar.

Ruby EL34BHT

JJ KT66

Now here's the set of tracks with dual guitars.

the JJ KT88 sounded better to me than the EHX KT88, something missing from the EHX that the JJs had

the EL34BHTs and the E34Ls sounded too similar to me to really compare/contrast

I liked the JJ KT88s the most

Pretty much ditto. Though not as much a difference as I would have expected...wondering if the KT88s would allow for a better tone when tweaked vs. everything set to noon.

BTW, whats a Baron K88 cost roughly?

I prefer the Ruby EL34.

Just curious, by "dual guitar" recording, do you mean you took two takes of the same song and layered it?

Single guitar this is just one guitar centered played. Dual guitar I panned each guitar left and right.

^^ A K88 costs $1550 roughly. Check out the site in my sig. Prices are all there.

JJ KT88 wins, pretty easily for me.

The EHX 88s had that annoying upper mids him that all EHX tubes have and the JJ KT66 was lacking body when compeared to the KT88s.

As for the 34s. Ruby's win there. For my taste, the JJ's are too dark and lack the mid range clarity of the Ruby's.

Overall, nice work Kyle, thanks for doing this. It was a pretty interesting listen

Although I gotta ask...why no 6L6's?

Well here's the thing man. JJ KT66s aren't like real KT66s. They aren't made to the same specs and are really just a big 6L6. When listening to them you are basically hearing 6L6s. The only real KT66s still made to the correct specs are made by Shuguang so Penta Labs and Ruby are the only real KT66s out there unfortunately. A KT66 has the tightness and bottomend of a 6L6 but a lot of the crunch of an EL34. It's considered a hybrid tube .

Anyway I might be getting my hands on one but first I'm finishing off my payments for my next Baron amp. Should be here next week

I'll post the links on here later. Don't be surprised if they are 30mb+ though.
