That's not a tube amp, and won't be much of a upgrade, if any from your MG.

Closest city (ie: where do you search on Craigs List)?

*edit* Nevermind, guess it doesn't really matter, just searched all the North Dakota Craigs Lists and there wasn't a single amp in your price range that I'd buy

I'd search eBay, Harmony-Central, UG's Classifieds, Rig Talk, TheGearPage, etc. and see what you can find. I'm still going to say that the Jet City JCA20 is the best amp in that price range, and even quite a bit more, but it's only 1 channel, not sure if you need more. It's very versatile though, just not exactly super versatile when playing live

*edit 2* Is too bad you're not looking for drums, cause this is a pretty bitchin deal: http://fargo.craigslist.org/msg/1873255714.html

My take is that the Transtube will be an upgrade to the MG. I'm glad you like your MG but I do think of 'nice warm sound' when I think of the Marshall MG.

You say you play a lot of different genres but that doesn't really help? I mean to you play Death Metal? Do you play Jazz? Do you play Stoner Rock? Do you play Metal Core?

The Jet City is good rec. The Blackstars and Egnater Rebels are OK.

Your best bet is a used amp like the Classic 30 already mentioned. Maybe a Traynor. Maybe a Crate V. Maybe a used Marshall tube amp if you can find one. Where are you in N.D.? I've been to Jamestown and Bismark.

My last and final rec for a new amp would be a Peavey Vypyr 60 for $450 new.

Peavey Valveking 112 or Peavey Classic 30. Try to buy used, better deal that way. I would probably take the Classic 30 over the VK112, but your preference would be different then mine.

if there's a guitar center anywhere near you, there's a chance they've got a JCA20.

FWIW, I didn't like the JCA20 very much. too harsh through the Blackstar 112 cabs I was using it with.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I'd imagine that's because you were playing it through a Blackstar 1x12. Mine sounds like sex through my Emperor

A little too expensive for me, considering the 6505+ 112 I'll be getting within the next month is about my limit pricewise

My JCA and Emperor cost me $200 less than the 6505+ combo.

Though, there's a used combo on MF for $386, has some obvious cosmetic defects, but doesn't look that bad to me!

O.o

Whatever, I prefer having 2 (or 3, sorta) channels.

I like the 5150 II demo, btw. Is that boosted?

Anyway, TS, imma let you get back on with your thread now.

A VK is an option but certainly not my preferred amp for much of anything.

I'm guessing Souix Falls is too far? That GC has a few used amps worth mentioning.

I was not blown over by the Jet City I played but the clips do sound good (including Dereks)
