I agree with Bleed, the solo sounds like the FL studio guitar simulation.

Pretty much any King Crimson song from the last 15 years. Nothing against Adrian Belew's or Robert Fripp's solo style, but the rhythm parts are often far more interesting.

Also agreed about the majority of Meshuggah songs.

Protest The Hero's "Blindfolds Aside" is a rare song where I have a harder time learning the rhythm part than the solo, which is relatively simple.

The entirety of Cynic's "Traced In Air" album has equally-good rhythm and solos. I wouldn't say the rhythms are better, because the solos are really good, but they have some of the most interesting rhythm guitar parts I've ever heard in any genre.
Q: Favourite Pink Floyd song?
A: The one where they get wicked high and play Emin and A for an hour.

3. Metallica
4. Megadeth

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

I'd say just about every song really.

That last part of Weezer's "Buddy Holly" solo may be the only exception.

I'd also go with Anthrax and maybe some tallica.

Damn you Dave Mustaine and your ability to choose great lead guitarists.

Not necessarily a solo but the rhythm Paul Waggoner plays in the intro to Prequel To The Sequel > The lead for sure.

Also agree with Blindfolds Aside, for sure.

God help you if you didn't exclude in This Light... That solo, no matter how short, is a piece of beauty.

All the songs on Remain In Light by Talking Heads. Though Adrian Belew's solos are pretty hot as well.

Damn right it is, it's a brilliant song anyway but that is quite a highlight.

I'm trying to think of some songs where the riff behind the solo is actually better than the lead.
First one that came to mind was Bleed by Meshuggah.
What do you guys think?

I like the bleed solo, reminds me of a different flavoured Holdsworth.

On the topic of Meshuggah, Millenium Cyanide Christ.

Edit

A lot of necrophagist.

I agree with a lot of meshuggah songs, but Nothing has some amazing exceptions in the songs Stengah, Rational Gaze, and of course, the most epic solo of them all, Straws Pulled at Random.

But yeah, Bleed has a pretty unimpressive solo, esepecially compared to the incredible rythym going on.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Are you saying you prefer the chords behind the riff? Because that riff is just godly.
