So guys what's the difference between distortion and overdrive? Does every amp out there produce overdrive or is there anyone that produces distortion?

Both terms are basically interchangeable. Distortion usually means stronger overdrive, but not necessarily.


Some people will come in and claim that both mean different things, or that one has to do with tubes and the other with solid state circuitry. They're wrong.

To put it simply? Overdrive v. Distortion is like...
Metallica v. Megadeth.
They're both the same thing, but nobody will ever agree to that

overdrive for da blues and distortion for da metals. but yeah they are the same really, cept not really, but kinda. mostly

Overdrive is when the valves in a valve amp clip when its turned right up... distortion is just shit loadsa gain.
