My friends and I want to make a trip to Canada next summer and I have a few questions. How much would it cost to make a trip to Canada and possibly Alaska (leaving from Maryland) and stay for about a week (any suggestions on how to save cash would be great too)? Also what are some places we should try to go and what cool stuff is there to do in Canada?

EDIT: Also any specific part of Canada we should stay in or avoid?

I dunno much about Canada, but you should start applying for passports right now. It takes a while to get 'em, and nowadays you need one to get into Canada.

Driving from Maryland?

Head to Buffalo, cross the border, hit up Toronto, Sudbury, Sault St. Marie, head west to Grand Forks then North to Winnipeg, then Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, Prince George, Kitwanga village, then north to Alaska.

If you are wanting to save money, Avoid staying in Banff/Jasper as they are expensive as all hell.

Cool things to check out:
Farm towns in Saskatchewan
Jasper National Park
Tyrell Museum in Drumheller Alberta
Niagara Falls
Totem Poles in Northern BC

I'm heading up to Banff with my girlfriend in a few months.
We'll be traveling by train.
It looks like its going to cost a little over $2500 for just the two of us.
When were there we are looking into a sled dog ride, and a few other things.

Oops, forgot to include the hotel.

Yeah, nothing to see in Canada..

I suggest Toronto / Ottawa / Niagara Falls, Ontario

Jasper, Alberta

Taking a faerie to Vancouver island

Avoid: mid-Canada, not much to see besides farming

maybe quebec unless you have a certain destination. might be awkward if you know no french. east coast, I just don't like the east cost..

after being to most of those places i say do it and do it now. Honestly, driving by the Rockies or on the Canadian shield is just beautiful. If you do come to Niagara Falls, i suggest going to the gorge, i go there every once in a while just to get away, it's awesome.

I would instead go to Calgary, it's closer to banff and it has the stampede in early July(basically a massive cowboy themed party).

Yes to mid-Canada. Yes to Quebec if you don't speak French. There isn't really anything wrong with the east coast either, it's beautiful there as well.

If you're driving (my assumption) how the fuck do you plan on getting to Alaska and back in a week?
