you can't get a very good guitar for $200, but you can get a yamaha fg700s. it has a solid top, quality yamaha build, hardware and finish. is it VERY good? no, but it is good, and probably the best in its price range. personally i'd definitely recommend it way ahead of a fender.

Not a yamaha fan, their guitars always feel stiff to play, not very natural at all. And they seem to try distract people from the poor playablility but making them prettier, but I place looks at a distant second behind playability.

But people seem to like them, so maybe i just haven't played the right ones.

A lot of people like the Cort Earth Grand around that price. Might be worth checking out as the spec is similar to the Yamaha. I like the very simple looks, too.
