I've been to the guitar store 2 days ago, playing everything in my price range.
I didn't expect I would go with this guitar, but here it is:

A Gigbag:

It says Fender:

What could it be?

Nah, no tease-NGD-thread, here it is:

Wait, what is this bull****?

It's the Fender American Special HSS Strat! ... in black!

It was the first guitar I picked up in the store and I fell in love with it. After hours of trying all other guitars in my price range nothing could was even close to this in terms of quality and playability.
I really love the neck, it feels great to me. Thick but not overly thick, not as wide as most Gibson necks, modern C shape, nice satin finish and the jumbo frets make bending really easy.
The body is nicely finished and has a good weight.
The tremolo is set up to float, I don't use it that much though. You can play around with it to some extent before it makes the guitar go out of tune, don't expect those crazy divebombs and stuff without going out of tune.
I might want to block it later, or buy some locking tuners, I don't know ATM.
The tuners hold everything in tune very well if I am just playing.
The Texas Special singlecoils give some nice funky and juicy Strat tones, while the Atomic humbucker is great for the mid- and high-gain stuff I play. It has some nice bite and clarity to it. In case the tone is too bright, the Greasebucket Tone Circuit helps making the sound mellower without turning it into mud.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the guitar.

840€

However, I've got some problems and I would be glad if you help me.

The gigbag I got looks nothing like the Fender Deluxe Gigbag on Fender's site and the serial number doesn't have a "Z" at the beginning like on all the pictures.

Any explanation?

Should I send an E-Mail to Fender?

Have you tried checking your serial number through here?

http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

If you're still suspicious, just e-mail Fender. They respond quite quickly (1-2 business days) and they know their stuff. Just send them the pics and serial number.

That is very odd...maybe it just came fresh out of the factory? Shoot an e-mail for sure.

Considering that the American Special series only exists since 2010, maybe those numbers are too new for the site.

Also the guitar doesn't look or feel like a fake, but I'll definately shoot a mail.

From where im standing, guitar deffinately looks like its the real deal.

I doubt thered be any copies out (to that standard) if its a new series.

The dating on the fender website doesnt go to 2010.
And the guitar date project probably hasnt been updated to include these new models.

Wouldnt worry about it, esp if you bought it from a proper store.

that's the same bag that every american special i've unwrapped comes with? everything looks correct to me.

how do you like the pups?

OK, then everything's fine.

I quite like the pups, I'm not a big pickup-expert but I'd say they have some nice clarity, they might be a tad bright though. I haven't got any problems with them being too noisy or something and the humbucker works well with the high gain levels I play.
Especially with high gain the humbucker has some nice bite to it.

yea it's a cool set. the neck and middle are texas specials (not tex mex) and the bucker is an "atomic". i thought there were very good and preferred them to what comes on the standards.

congrats.

awesome! HNGD

Looks a lot like my MIM. I replaced stock bridge with a Duncan Custom Custom. Nice upgrade if you play heavier stuff. My bridge is also set to float and I do not have any major tuning problems. Maybe it needs new strings or a set up

As mentioned, I'm sure the serial number thing is fine.

Enjoy!

here is mine

If you put the pickup selector to the bridge + middle pickup position it actually really splits the bridge humbucker.

* Serial numbers that begin with 10, followed by a space and then several other digits. This system was quickly replaced by a second convention, although instruments bearing these designations were produced for a few months in late 2009 and early 2010.
