I am new to guitar. I am trying to play the modern day delilah - kiss riff like in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d3ei-ZA2pE

In the video, he has the distortion tone down and every note sounds clear. I notice that when I turned up the amp's overdrive for a metal tone breakup, every note rings for quite awhile. The strucked 6th string will still be ringing when i play the the 3rd fret 5th string so the notes sound all blended in together. Should I mute the 6th string after playing them or do i need to adjust my amp setup? I don't have the greatest technique (still working on that) but it seems like the guy in the video is not muting strings.

you need to work on technique and learn to mute string (: and maybe your amp need a bit of setting adjustement pi its mostly muting technique
