Hi all,

I recently picked up this amp, i know its a Vox Escort from the 70s, but i can't find any infomation about this Brian May version. Does anyone know anything about the amp?

Cheers

Sorry the pics arent amazing, im a musician, not a photographer! =P

It actually looks like Brain signed it at some point. Since on the back it doesn't mention Brian. Which you would think they would if it was a signature model of some kind.

^ That would be pretty cool. A signature model would be lame but a signed one would be pretty sweet. At least it could be put on display, better than playing it.

Its apparently a very rare prototype, and is signed by Brian, and two other people who i havent identified yet.

I'm going to have it authenticated and sold at auction i think! Although im very tempted to keep it for a while, like my GEC KT88 valves i have... Hmmm

not sure if this is the same amp, but i remember Vox released a clone of Brian's "Deacy" amp as a combo amp. the ones I saw were white, though.

Yeah you are referring to the VBM1, which is white, this is the really early prototype, which eventually became the VBM1 - so i am told.

It's signed by three people on the back, one is Brian May, the other three i have no idea.

Sounds awesome by the way, but it crackles and cuts out where it has sat in a shed for 15 years. I dont wanna touch it myself because of its age/value. Might send it off to a local tech though to have the pots cleaned and the dry joints resoldered.

But yeah, it sounds phenominal, its on par with a 'proper' AC30

yes... i just compared a 1970s SS combo to an AC30...

UPDATE:

I've just had the autographs put under a friends UV light, and you can see Brian May as clear as day, the sig in the top right corner looks alot like Rodger Taylor, and the long signature at the bottom has features that strongly resemble Freddie's. This just made my day

I think im going to take it somewhere to be authenticated, so i have confirmation.

clips or it's a amplug on roids.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Haha yeah its pretty cool isnt it! I cant get a better pic of the sigs im afraid, they are very feint (its black marker on black tolex) and we only managed to identify them with a bluey coloured Light. (Blue LED as opposed to UV). Rodger's 'R' cuts across the bottom right corner of the stamped warning panel. I'll see what i can do!

No way of recording clips, sorry!

i was just kidding.

it's very cool, i'd keep it as well. down the road someday you could potentially make some cash on a queen fan with more money than smarts.

but i'd probably just hang on to it.
