Personally I'm curious about this too, but my understanding is communism is an economic system, while socialism is a system of government.

Ask the Politics thread, they're all pretty knowledgeable on that. My understanding is that the words are basically interchangeable, that's based on what one of the politics people said in an earlier thread.
