I'm really wanting to try this so I figured I'd try it on a squire. Would it look good?

And how are you going to mount the switches and pickups?

well take the pickguard off and find out.
although im going to go with no,

because correct me if im wrong (but this is what my squire is like) but the pickguard covers the large control cavity and all the wiring. also, the volume, tone, pickup switch and the pickups are all mounted to the pick guard.
so you may be thinking you can just rip that sucker off, but.. no...

ive tried a long time ago.
i learned the hard way..
it does look cooler, because it looks totally different..but you just have to find a way to attatch the pickups/switch to something.

i'd suggest screwing it onto the wood, or duct tape it.

no offence or anythin bud,
but duct tape would look horrible. and you owuldnt be able to screw the pickup selecter or controls to the wood.

but you could always get a clear acrylic pickguard, like the one on my legobass (see sig) that way you would get a different view including seeing the wiring and stuff and whats underneath the pickguard.
but most likely it still wont look very good

sorry hah. i was just suggesting what he could do without any pickguards there.
well since the inside cavity is black.
you could spray paint it or paint the taped on duct tape.
but thats pretty..far fetched and stupid.

Despite how awesome that is, and what sort of awesomeness has come out of it, it looks like a total piece of shit.

fender makes strats without pickguards?

I am quite sure you have to fill out some cavities which I am sure can be done but it would be a pretty big job. You would have to redo the whole finish. I have no idea how to attach the electronics so it looks nice. Glue?
Alright people, Move along - there is nothing to see.

Lol.

You can't just take a pickguard off a strat. Everything in the guitar is on the pickguard. So if you don't plan on playing with any switches, knobs, pickups or input jacks, then you should totally try it.

I think EVH put that together while drunk in a garbage can. Looks terrible, don't care what the mans reputation is, I mean, the damn pickups are held in by nails, NAILS for God sake!!

Short answer, no, it won't look good without the pickguard, the pickguard is what holds the pickups and the pots, and covers up the control cavity.

^ lol yeah it looks like bull crap

Yeah, those look good, but TS wants to take a Squier with a pick guard, remove it, and go that way, the cavity will be exposed and there will be nothing for the pickups to mount to, unless he want's to use alot of wood putty and reroute the electronics.

Naa. you have to see the EVH guitar in person.
looks totally different.
I jizzed myself starring at it.
