I'm thinking about installing a stesbar tremolo on my les paul but I want floyd rose functions. The official website says its floating but most of the reviews say its more like a bigsby.

Has anyone played one? It would be great to know your impression of it. Is the range as good or almost as good as floyd rose?

Make sure you put me in your citations at the end. Or at least in your sig.

I dont think the Stetsbar is going to be much good if you want to use it like a Floyd. Really there isn't any trem that will go straight onto a LP that will be able to work like a Floyd.
There is the Tremma though, it doesn't need any modification and IIRC it has a 1 octave dive range.

EDIT: ^Maybe I was wrong about the Stetsbar!

Gibson or Epiphone? because you will need to know if it is standard or metric, as the tailpiece spacing is different because the bridges on a Gibby vs. Epi are not interchangable.

at $300 plus i hope you are putting it on a Gibson.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

I would install a kahler but I don't want to modify the guitar

Yes, it's floating. The guy in this video does both dives and pull ups with it, showing off its range. He goes out of tune toward the end, but if you read the comments, a bit of lubricant fixed that.
