I've mainly focused on my technique over the time that I've been playing, so now that I'm in the market for an amp, I haven't the foggiest idea where to start.

I have a Jackson Soloist guitar (new pickups and bridge, so I'm not completely sure what model), and a Digitech RP250 for effects.

I'm looking for a... hm. How can I put it?

Modern pseudo-nu-metal-ish, Disturbed/Slipknot style sound.

I'm looking for a smaller amp, 30 watt or in the area. $500 max.

Any recommendations?

(Sorry for the deluge of noob here )

Peavey 6505+ 112.....get the hints? It will give you EXACTLY the sound you are looking for and it's loud enough for gigging unmic'd as well.
Ibanez RGR421EXFM >> Maxon OD808 >> BOSS NS-2 >> Peavey 5150 212

I don't actually like the 6505 much but it's certainly the amp you need.

Well, the 6505+ combo seems like a good idea. It's 60w, but them amps have volume knobs, aye?

^Don't listen to him, he can't even build a Champ clone properly.

Oi, watch it you or I'll jump out of your monitor and rip your bloody arms orf!!!!

And anyway, I still recommended it for him, it's just not something I'd buy for myself.

yeah the 6505+112 combo is a really neat amp. It cleans up nicely and has chugga amounts of gain available. I don't know if I'd run an Rp250 through one though. I used to own that same RP. If you like effects I would also look into the Vypyr 60 with the power tube section. (I know I know...metal is all about the preamp).

Yeah Owl, I'm just messing.

I wouldn't mind a 6505... but I'm not in the position to buy amps that I'd use once every two months. I've got more important fish to catch.
