So, I've started this uni and I've made some great friends already, and even got a little group thing going on.

Now, me and these other two guys in this group, we pretty much talk about the most pointless stuff, mixed with sarcasm, wit, and a good dose of bullshit. However, we totally understand this humour.

Now, when we talk to other people, boys or girls, this type of bullshit kinda seeps off and I end up being pretty sarcastic.

I'm wondering, what do you guys think? Is too much sarcasm bad, or does it not matter?

Or in other words, should I bullshit less?
Thing is, it's always more fun to throw in sarcasm here and there.

whenever i talk to someone that is sarcastic, i have an uncontrollable urge to eviscerate them.

that was until i made a graph of how much my boss pissed me off. but seriously dude, graphs.

Well since you are UG's Scottish Gentleman, then you should tone down the sarcasm. What do I know I'm sarcastic a lot too, just be sure you know when to use it.

Depends on how you do it, but I prefer as little sarcasm as possible. They might come off as douchey rather than playful.

Cheers guys.

That's what I'm been fearing.

I usually tone down, but I think yesterday I may have taken it too far.

But Kensai, isn't sarcasm the key to being Cocky/Funny?

well i see you're attending Glasgow University.... being a self-obsessed, arrogant wanker is an entry requirement for that place so i'm sure you'll fit in fine.

Depends, but I think most people overdo the sarcasm bit and come across as a joker.

i find if i talk utter garbage to someone i dont know like i would to one of my close friends it gives me an indication as to whether ill get on with them well or not. if they dont get it ill just tone it down and be a bit less surreal with them. i feel thats the best way to do it, for me anyway.

there is never enough BS.

Bullshitting =/= sarcasm.

My housemate is an expert bullshitter and unfortunately, it's not him being sarcastic. It's just him being a prick and lying about everything

So bullshit and sarcasm are fine, as long as you're not telling lies to make yourself look cooler.

Using sarcasm allows one to weed out people who lack a sense of humor and, as a related element, brains.
Dear God, do you actually answer prayers?

Yes, but only in a way indistinguishable from random luck or the result of your own efforts.

I love using sarcasm, but only when it's appropriate.

Yeah, because there are situations where sarcasm isn't appropriate.

I'm the textbook definition of "Sarcky Joker". Nobody can take me seriously. If you ever watched "Friends", I am as bad as Chandler. I've been told many times. Sarcasm when appropriate is good, but don't overuse it like some people do, TS. Time and a place.
I shall grant you three wishes.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

OT: yeah I think tone it down a bit, you'll come off as being a prick, I know several people who just overdid the whole sarcasm thing, and as far as bullshitting goes, it's fun when someone is extremely naive and you can string them along, as long as they find out in the end that you were in fact kidding, but I ****ing hate people who lie all the time just coz they think it makes them seem cooler.

I find that as long as you're making it blatantly obvious that you're being sarcastic and should not be taken seriously you fine, so that when you ARE trying to be taken seriously, people can tell you're not bsing them. I usually try to say the silliest, most exaggeratedly absurd things with a huge smirk and wild eyes when I'm being sarcastic so when I talk to people calm cool and collected, they know I'm for real.

This.

Sarcasm can be funny if timed properly, just not all the time.

Bullshiting is just stupid. dont do it, I mean your at uni, not year 7 bragging about pointless shit like your first pube. Bullshitters just look like idiots especially as everybody around you will know your talking rubbish for no reason.

Now just learn to blag, a much more important uni tool

I have a very different rapport with people I know well than I do with other people, because they appreciate it. Me and my sister or my mum talk to each other in a way people think is very hostile and abrasive, but we just know each other's limits and that's how we roll
