i am looking for a new guitar soon. i don't have the money at the moment, but will in the next month or so. i do not want to spend over $1300 and would ideally like it around $1200. if it is a little bit over $1300, i will consider it, but try to keep it less.

i own like 20+ guitars, and if you want to see what they are, look in my signature. most of them are budget, as i pick them up cheap when i see them, NONE of them are a perfect fit for what i am looking for.

i want it to have a thicker neck. think gibson's 60's profile, ideally that or a tiny bit thicker. not too much thinner than the 60's though.

it needs to have at least humbucker, ideally two. a single coil is not necessary, as i would prepare a coil tap over a single coil. a coil tap is not necessary, as i can get whatever i need out of humbuckers.

i prefer 22 frets, due to neck pickup placement, although it is not a deal breaker, but it is a strong preference.

i need better fret access than on my les pauls

it needs to be solid body for sure.

the pickups need to be passive, voiced for classic rock/blues

i don't want a tremolo

it needs to be made in the USA, Japan, Canada, etc. with a great reputation.

no ESP/Jackson/Ibanez

i will be playing hard driven rock/blues. think anything from SRV, to Joe Bonamassa, Jonny Lang, Kenney Wayne Shepard. however, i am not looking for a single coil tone(that many of those artists use), i want really fat humbucker tone.

i have good amps and effects, so i don't want anybody to tell me to upgrade anything else, as i want a new guitar.

-------------------

sustain is importiant

prefer mahogany or similar wood.

preferably not alder

I would look into the Carvin's and build it to your specs. Or build one yourself with parts from Warmoth or USA Guitars.

ESP LTD RZK-600
4 Custom Strats
1 Custom Soloist (Warmoth)
1 Custom Telecaster (Warmoth)
2007 Jimmie Vaughan Sig Strat

Callaham Hardware & Bridges
Fender Custom Shop 69's

i will look into carvin again. i looked like 5 or 6 years ago, and wasn't thrilled, but i bet a lot has changed. so i will do that.

i do not want to build one from Warmoth or another piece company. they don't hold their value enough, and i think i would get a better value from a manufacturer. also i have built a custom guitar before.

work a lot. i used to serve at a busy restaurant 35 hours a week. i could easily walk out with $150+ in tips a night. i have worked for all of it, its not like my parents spend a lot on me. they just supply me with food and gas to get to the University.

Why are you wanting it to hold it's value if it's going to be the 'ultimate' guitar to you?
I'm sure you can get a custom built guitar to your exact specs & you shouldn't need to sell it if it's that important.

i am just not big on the custom.

i checked out carvin, and didn't really find what i was looking for. they just didn't have the right one for me. i will look more later. i want more than just a standard superstrat body. i don't want it radical, but theirs just didn't cut it.

what about an American Hamer? i forgot about them.

Warmoth build sounds like your best bet, but until you said no to it I was going to suggest an ESP Eclipse. I don't like their necks much, but they've got nearly everything else.

Charvels are really nice, but I don't know if they make models without Floyd Roses, so unless you want to block it that's out of the question.

Maybe one of the Fender '72 Telecaster Deluxes? They're alder, but with a solidbody it's less of an effect on tone.

I know, the ESP has everything, but the neck, and IIRC maybe a little bit for fret access.

i will look into the Fender '72 Tele Delux. are they 22 frets?

i am looking for more of a guitar known for really good action and soloing the more that i think about it... it just needs to play blues/ blues rock well.

Honestly a Carvin C66 would be EXACTLY what you said in your first post. You can get it hard tail, 22 frets, HSS configuration, and in Mahogany, they're necks are not shred thin either.

i am loving the Carvin C66. for some reason when i looked at Carvin previously, i neglected the bolt on because i thought they just had the bolt.

i like that it is mahogany, i like ebony for a board, i like that it is a hardtail.

only issues are that i dont know if i can get vintage sized frets, as i dont like jumbo. i also do not know how much i will like carvin's pickups.

so that gets a big thumbs up. thanks RBM.

You can get regular sized frets, I have jumbo on mine because I like em, but yeah you certainly can. Carvin's pickups either are love or hate. I love mine, mind you mine are more voiced for metal, but they're articulate, incredibly powerful and most of all, clean up really well, even in full humbucker mode.

EDIT:

Base Model Options Quantity Price
C66-
Right Handed
Fixed Bridge 1 $879.00

MAH - Maple Neck/Mahogany Body $50.00
-CG - Clear Gloss Finish (Standard) $0.00
FTB4 - Sapphire Blue Flame $0.00
-IN - Inline Headstock (Standard) $0.00
FPH4 - Flamed Maple Headstock Matches Body Color $0.00
-EB - Ebony Fingerboard (Standard) $0.00
-DI - Dot Inlays (Standard) $0.00
STRF - Stainless Regular Frets .043" H .080" W $40.00
-R12 - 12in Fretboard Radius (Standard) $0.00
-C22 - Direct-Mount C22B/C22J Pickups (Standard) $0.00
-400 - Black Coils w/ Black Bezels (Standard) $0.00
HSS - 2 AP11 Single Coils, C22B Bridge Pickup (N/A with AC) $30.00
BC - Black Hardware $30.00
BLL - Large Black Logo (IN, RIN, PTH, PTHR only) $10.00
HC11S - Form-Fitted ABS Hardshell Case FREE $0.00
Custom Shop Total: $1,039.00

This is what I would order if I was in your shoes, it has pretty much all that you asked for, and it still leaves you 200-250 dollars for a set of pickups if you don't like Carvin's stock ones.

i made a new thread, with my four findings. the carvin from here, and a few others from a thread on another forum. i found another one.

it is here.

this was a little too broad, and i have narrowed it down to four.
