Hey, I have an ESP-LTD (one of the cheap ones ) with factory tuners in it, the regular ESP tuners. Does anybody know what is the largest string gauge a person can fit into these tuners? I think I am going to tune this guitar to some ridiculously low tuning, so I want to put big fatty strings in it so they don't flop all over the place when I want to play. I am thinking a 68 for the low E, which will probably be tuned down to B or something fun like that. Yeah.
I dont think a 68 will fit thru that tuner, or hte nut slot.
I am not worried about the nut, that can be filed wider if it needs to be. But the 68 will not fit through the post? Do you have measurements?
Since he said i "think" he probably doesn't have measurements. Do you have gibson style tuners or the fender top loading style tuners?
Hmmm... More Fender-ish, I think. I found them on a parts website, but I don't know how to read the diagram there is, the writing is very small. Maybe you can take a look at it:
Ok those are gibson style. I don't think they will fit.
What is the biggest that will fit, then?
I have one of those tuners in my hand right now... I rough measure the hole with a caliper, and you MIGHT be able to get a 68 thru there, but its going to to be tight...
I second though, it doestn look like it... It actually looks like the hole itself is a 68 guage.
BUT after some testing... the biggest drill bit i could fit thru it wsa .056, so i think a string would be even harder to get through there.
