I have found an Ibanez Les Paul 1975 made in Japan for £400. It is the PF200 series but other than that i have no other info on it. Does anyone know if these are good guitars and worth buying and how much do they normally go for?

A quick search on ebay shows they go for around $600-$700 USD. Don't know anything about the quality though, sorry.

certainly the 80's models can be slightly desirable probably because the quality was walking over people like gibson at the time

I think they might be the lawsuit guitars, not certain though.

Those '80s lawsuit guitars are pretty much always good deals because, as someone pointed out, they were taking business away from the big guys in America.

Yeah my friend actually owns one of the lawsuit LP's. Not only does it look really cool but it doesn't sound bad at all either. There's a reason why they got sued, lol.

Made in Japan in the 70's? Buy it. It's a lawsuit copy, as good or better build and sound quality than Gibsons from that era. Worth the $ fo sho.

I can't believe how many people are misinformed on this subject.
Ibanez was almost sued by Gibson for the Headstock design only which copied Gibson's patented open book look. The lawsuit was dropped when Ibanez was found to have already stopped using it.
Tokai in the 70's was the premier maker of the best copies of Les Paul and Stratocasters.
The Ibanez model in question will probably have a bolt-on neck and laminated body wood with a veneer cap. Hardly better than a Gibson.
These things were going for $200 CAD new back then and I saw many hanging from the ceiling in Weiner's Pawn Shop in Ottawa in 76/77.
Moving on.....

I have an Ibanez LP with the open book headstock. It is the best playing and sounding LP I have ever played. I wouldn't trade it or sell it for ridiculous amounts of money. Simply the best feeling guitar I have ever laid my hands on.

1975 is bolt-on neck. Firewood, but people ask silly prices for them.
Actual late seventies that have set necks are being touted at up to $2000. Crazy world.

It is crazy considering Tokai made the best knockoffs in that period.
