Alright, this struck me while looking at my TV remote earlier (as all ideas should). Are there any necks that have a thicker neck at one end, and gradually or suddenly get thicker/thinner at another end?

I know about compound radius fingerboards, but that's different. I'm talking about being 50's U Telecaster thick at the headstock, and Ibanez thin at the other side.

I find thin necks way too hard to chord on, due to my bigger hands, but they're nice for soloing. On the other side, I can solo well enough on my Les Paul, but it's not as comfortable and fluid.

I tried to search for this, but had trouble coming up with decent terms, so if this has been discussed, sorry.

That's an interesting concept that has never occurred to me. I'm interested in reading the responses to this thread.

As I recall the ibanez jem 7v has something sort of like this, but it may just be extra support for the locking tuning mechanism

sounds like an interesting thought though

Dammit, we can't escape from each other.

@Steve, how gradual is it? Is it comfortable? What thicknesses does it have?

I guess I'll have to try a JEM now. Gives me a reason to do it.

I think Warmoth will make you a neck like that.

I'm not sure if they do that but I do know they have that odd radius fretboard where it's round at the top and gets flatter on it's way down.

Yeah, I pointed that out in the OP, I'm talking about the actual neck itself.

How radical is the JEM in the differences?

It's not a huge difference like it won't go from small tree to toothpick, but it does seem to be a difference
