First of all, what I play is quite diverse:

I play from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNCoih1G9_Q&ob=av2e

to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trRMqPmpOh8 (bass comes in about 1:20)

I have a compression pedal, and for top link I have a half-decent built in overdrive in my amp.

I am getting some money for my birthday next week, and I was wondering what opinions you guys had on what to get to hopefully improve my tone for both types of music.

I've only had my chorus pedal for a few days and it's surprisingly versatile! You can get some really awesome tones that really compliment a band enviroment, especially if there's no rhythm guitarist and just a lead track over top. I run it through a compression pedal, dual-band, too.

And although I don't actually own one, a buddy of mine plays through an EHX Q-Tron envelope filter and you can get some extremely neat sounds out of that, especially for funk and straight-up rock.

I have a CEB-3 and I like it. I find that although it can make a bunch of different tones, a lot of them just aren't all that useful. You can for sure find it for cheap used.
