I have a lot of homework and long term projects that I'm not particularly keen on doing. A lot of banal, busy work that involves reading wordy contracts and useless crap about leadership. Make me feel better. What do you have to do?

...modes and scales are still useless.

Nothing.
My only "homework" class is Trig, but we don't have to turn it in and the subject is all review for me, so I don't need to do it.
I'm rgrockr and I do not approve of this message.

PHILOSOPHY 445
PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE
EXAM #1

Answer two of the following three questions. Roughly 3-4 pages per question should be necessary to answer each question, but you my write longer answers than that, if you wish. The exams are due by class time, Thursday, September 23.

1.Briefly describe the Aristotelian-Ptolemaic cosmology and its gradual replacement by the Newtonian model through the sixteenth and seventh centuries, highlighting the contributions of Copernicus, Brahe, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton. Evaluate the following comment by Herbert Butterfield in his The Origin of Modern Science.

In fact we shall see that in both celestial and terrestrial physics…change is brought about, not by new observations in the first instance, but by transpositions that were taking place inside the minds of scientists themselves. (p. 13)

2.Describe the phlogiston theory of chemistry and its explanations of smelting, combustion and calcination. Explain how Lavoisier’s oxidation theory replaced the phlogiston theory. As in the earlier revolution in cosmology, how data in chemistry were represented was at least as crucial as the discovery of new facts. As you relate this major shift in the history of chemistry, evaluate the following claim by Butterfield:

It would appear that experimentation and even technological progress are insufficient by themselves to provide the basis for the establishment of what we should call “modern science”. Their results need to be related to an adequate intellectual framework which on the one hand embraces the observed data and on the other hand helps to decide at any moment the direction of the next inquiry. (p. 203)

3.Fundamental scientific reorientations, such as the Darwinian revolution, affect our way of looking at the world. However, this is done mainly by focusing on new questions biologists began asking and new significance attached to old facts. Describe how Darwin’s theory of descent with modification from common ancestors illustrates this characteristic of new theoretical orientation in science.

Remember to submit your essay to turnitin.com as well as in hard copy.

An hour of calculus every night

It's been so long since I've done any real math. I'm pretty sure an hour of calculus would feel like days to me.

Gotta write an essay over a book I didn't read and then I gotta write another essay summarizing a source I found and then I have to write a reflection letter over the summary essay.

It's not that bad I guess but I'm just so damn lazy when it comes to writing essays.

ISN'T HAVING NO HOMEWORK GLORIOUS?!

Training for my new job starts on Saturday and I have a ton of startup paperwork to do though, it's kind of like homework

Right now, I have to write a little essay on giant statues of fast food and relate it back to consumerism. Weeee. ^_^

And I have to design a booklet about environmentally friendly offices. And I have to redesign some boring packaging. Yayayay.

But I never get much done because I'm always talking to this boring loser on MSN who won't leave me alone.

I haven't started uni this year yet (start in a couple of weeks, going into my third year), so I suppose my only "homework" at the moment is my dissertation.

Ten thousand words on (in my case) Geochemical and Geological Mapping Of Variations Within The G4 Pulse In The Western Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland.

My homework breaks down into two categories:

Spend a shit ton of time taking lots of pictures. Spend even more time editing said pictures. Pictures I use and edit and make for one class can't be used for another class. I have Three classes that follow this method.

Read. Take notes. Watch videos. Answer questions. Write a paper every week. I have two classes that follow this method.

Ever since I finished my Math course I haven't had that much, just a Basic Machinery problem set. When I was taking Math I generally had a 2+ hour problem set every night and an 8+ hour review packet to complete every weekend, on top of my BM homework. That sucked. Next term will be the same shit, only worse. Basic Physics, Advanced Trig, Algebra and Calculus, and Nuclear Physics. Life'll suck just a bit for a while...
