Are there any strings out there that are:

-Not Roundwound (I have a fretless)
-Light gauge (40s or 35s)
-Retain clarity over long periods

It seems that every time I look for strings, I find either super-bright ones or 45-50 flatwounds. It's annoying as hell.

Stadium Elite make a set of flatwounds in 40-60-80-100.

While you won't find them in a US retailer, Strings Direct do ship them to the US for a low shipping price. Stadium elites last a good long time and are worth the extra hassle.

www.stringsdirect.co.uk is the address. If they don't have them listed, email them and they will give you the current pricing.

I've tried the GHS and the EBs. They were ok. The GHS have a meh sound

I always forget about La Bella. I have to add those to my list to try out.

If you don't mind dropping about $50.00 for a set of four strings, Thomastik-Infeld makes very good flatwounds, too. I've heard a few people rave about these:

That's actually cheaper than I've seen them go for in stores.
