Budget: £300 quid, I might stretch that a bit but it depends
Location: London, UK
Styles: Thrash/Progressive/Heavy Metal, Blues-Rock, Jazz and a touch of classical.
Amp: Vypyr 30W
Pickups: Preferably active, H-S-H if possible (reason being Its an investment for when I buy a tube amp, yes I'm aware its not optimal for an SS).

Now I'm obviously not looking for any beginner guitars something pro preferably or intermediate. Used is an option too

Currently looking at this cute lil' axe

It should be a good guitar for the genres you listed, plus I think it has a coil tap.

Neck through for that price...Damn you're making this hard for me.

I would too but I don't see a point in getting one since I'm a bedroom player. (HT-5 aside). Being a student money is tight

If you can find a used one in good condition, try a Schecter C-1 +. In the U.S. it's about $600-700, sorry, but I don't know my conversions, but I'm pretty sure you're looking at $450, so if you can find one used, try it out. The newer models have coil tap, it has 2 humbuckers, and I've played one without coil tap, and it can cover all styles you want (never tried classical, though). I know your amp can make it sound very similar to a single coil, though, as I have the same one, so if you can't find a cheap one with coil tap, mess with your settings and use your amp, until you get a tube, that is. Still, it's one of the best and most versatile guitars I've ever played.

I'm going to second this...I don't have a C-1+, but I have a C-1 Elite. I'm guessing the + version is just as versatile. Mine uses passive Duncan Designed HB's , but both the cleans and distortion sound great, this guitar definitely surprised me. I think I've had it for about 6 years and it's still working well. I was fortunate enough to get mine for about $450...which is about 280£ ( I think). This was because of a few paint chips. See if you're able to try one of these out at a local shop.

x50pro is nice... i've seen them slightly cheaper (£329 in a couple of online shops), though they didn't have free postage so it'd probably end up being much of a muchness...

just to point out, i think some of the newer ones (if not all) are made in indonesia. The one I tried and really liked was made in korea... no idea if the quality is any different, but if you're buying without trying I'd try to get a korean one. If you're lucky, the older colours (cognac and blue) might be korean, and the newer colours (amber or something like that) might be indonesian, but it might not be as easy as that...

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Believe me I'd love to get a Schecter but here in the UK they are horribly overpriced. For example a brand new C-1 + is 600quid here whereas its 600 bucks in the US!

yeah unless you just happen to find a one-off good deal, schecter is pretty much off the menu in the UK, or unless you just have your heart set on one. I mean they don't really offer you anything that the (korean-made) washburn x50 pro doesn't, at twice the price. I prefer the washburns.

Thats for the advice, just googled round and I've only seen the Cognac/Blue/Wine/Caramel burst maple tops on the X50, I think its going to be tough though finding one in store. I don't remember the last shop that I've been to on Denmark Street that stocks Washburn Solid body electrics..

Yeah they aren't good value for money unless you're American, but then again their demand has gone up greatly in the past few years so their prices have been jacked up regardless. The only thing I prefer on the Schecter is the Flamed maple top as opposed to the Quilted on the X50

yeah, the prices probably have gone up everywhere, but they were always pretty dear here (though granted they're dearer now ).

I *think* the older colours were blue and cognac, and the newer ones are wine and caramel, but don't quote me on that. Also, even if I'm right and they are the old colours, if they're still making those colours in indonesia too, that'll be no help.
