I'm going to purchase some backup power tubes for my Triple Rectifier. I've heard they have to be replaced in matched sets, but I don't really get why. Aren't all the power tube positions the same? Is it true that if one dies, I have to replace that one and it's matched tube? The Mesa website sells individual tubes or duets, so...

Thanks!

never owned a Mesa nor biased one.

my thoughts are:

tubes work in pairs in high gain amps like yours so you want them to be matched up plate voltage wise

they sound better and will last longer if they are matched

not all power tubes are the same

i would replace tubes in matched sets or quads

mesa tubes are 'pre-biased' so you never have to bias a Mesa. So they say.

i would follow Mesa spec and buy your spare tubes.

don't buy willie nillie.

mesa's tubes are Rebranded other tubes but don't worry about that unless a mesa amp owner comes in here an tells you otherwise

Don't buy Mesa.

Overpriced, rebranded tubes.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
