I like to name about everything, especially random spiders in my house that I capture to release outside, and I've been hoping that a name for my guitar would come to me soon. It's usually instant but my guitar is by far the most complex inanimate object that I've ever met. I'm even having trouble deciding on it's gender. I'm thinking it's a girl but boy names fit better... I'm so confused...

My cat, Nala, likes to sleep under it when it's propped up so I was considering calling it Simba, but it doesn't seem to fit right

So, do you name your guitars?

Absolutely. But they're all chicks. Rhiannon, Zalia, Leora, Jensen... you get the picture.
If you name it after a boy, I'd be worried about you. I mean, all the things you do with your guitar... Run your fingers up and down her body, cover her with polishing oils, making her sing and scream for you, fingering her sensitive frets, putting your male input jack in her female... well... like I said, you get the picture.
I have more fun than normal people are allowed to have.

That's the problem. Feel wise, it's a girl, soundwise, I imagine closer to a boy.

Maybe my guitar is a tomboy.

I just find it difficult to imagine any electric guitar being too, too feminine. Acoustic is much easier.

Do you even know what feminine means? x.X You can be a girl and not be extremely feminine. Like a guy can not be completely masculine

My guitar is called "the guitar"

It's an instrument, not a pet.

I think of it as having human characteristics :p

My MIM P-bass is named Gill and my MTD Kingston Heir 5 stringer is named Deve. I haven't gotten around to naming my Strat or my fretless SX Jazz bass since nothing has really struck me for them.

I always imagine people who give their guitars girly names to say things like "so I was fingering lucy the other day..." in public and not understand why other people give them funny looks.

My basses all have names. I've got my Shergold, Petra, and my Yamaha, Bernard (a joke I have is that it never stays in tune, like the lead singer of New Order, Bernard Sumner.)

no, because its a piece of **** squier with only one working pickup and a bad volume control and the other is a $50 acoustic plastered with stickers

Maybe if my guitar was forged in the fires of mordor I would call it "the one" but if it's just a generic strat why bother? There are millions of others exactly like it.

There may have been 300 of these threads but I've seen none since I've joined and I didn't want to necro one x.x I'm surprised that so many people voted no.

Naming a guitar after a female feels right, but the fact that it has a phallic symbolism is really quite odd.
