I have a line 6 spider iv 30 that I practice on, and while it's not the greatest,
I don't understand why it's so hated. Just wondering I'm not trying to start a flame war.

Yeah.
I'm not gonna judge on your post but.
It's really just bandwagonry.
I expect this to be closed shortly.
On playing the Paul Gilbert signature at the guitar store extensively, my missus sighed:
"Put it down now, It's like you love that guitar more than me!"
In Which I replied.
"Well it has got two F-Holes!"

I've wondered this myself for a while... I know it's not good, but I don't find it THAT bad.

I've gigged with it and it was fine and I didn't like a Roland I borrowed for a year off a friend either. But My other Friends Hot Rod Deville (to me) is what god would play if he was a guitar player

That's what I'm saying. It's not the most amazing amp, but I don't think it's terrible. And apparently anyone who thinks it should be used as anything besides a paperweight is a fanboy

wow......i dont understand this either...tbh i dnt care what anyone says....line 6 arent the best...but they are by far not the worst...tbh untill i got my blackstar i loved my line 6...it was only when i started jumping on the UG bandwagon that i started to dislike it :P...then i got cut off the net for a while and liked it again

everyone on here bangs on about tone...if you like the tone then its all good. but if you say you like the tone of a line 6 you get slated

in all honesty i like the distortion on my line 6 and the distortion on my blackstar but meh...no doubt i am going to get ripped to shred for this by the tube purists shortly

(PS i do prefer my blackstar now btw lol...i am by no means saying i dnt like it and i do beleive i am now a tube convert)

sorry..i'd rather place an overdrive or a distortion pedal infront of my Bassman instead of cranking it to 7 to make the dern thing break up:P and i hate spider amps...

i personally ****ing love them.

i've got 6 and trying to gobble up every last one on my criagslist.

Personally, I like using a Ford Escort to tow my boat. Everyone else says I should use a truck, but I bought and Escort and i'm too stupid to admit my mistake. I know there are a bunch of truck purists out there who say I should youe a truck, but my Escort work fine.

Ok...well, i can describe it, but suffice to say, they sound fake compared to other amps, one guy on here said digital.

theyre expensive for what you get.

EDIT: but i should point out, theyre not bad amps, theyre just not amazing either.

its nothing special. they are good as a practice amp. i think they only should have made 15w and 30w versions though
#19
Part of it is because every two weeks some asshat makes a thread about why we hate them so much, instead of using the search function to find that dozens have asked the question before already. The other part is that the amp is pretty mediocre at best.

Its always like that when some people have a specific opinion. Then everyone else starts to repeat the same thing even though they don´t have a clue

Its a chain reaction, some folks get a specific car, everyone else start buying the same one

Its not a good amp compared to some really expensive ones, but it sure is better than the cheapest ones I heard. Then you have your personal taste of tone

LINE 6 SPIDERS ARE THE BEST AMPS FOR THE PRICE> BUY NOW, LAUGH AT THEM LATER!

did i mention my band is Bill and the amazing Bumble Bees?

The real reason Spiders are hated on is because of their sterile, digital and uninspiring tone. You could play through a Spider on a £200 guitar then a £2000 guitar, and there would be no tonal difference. As practice amps theyre adequate and shouldnt be used for anything more.

i actually went and sold my entire rig (pedalboards and amps) for the spider 100w.

the onboard effects are better than any pedal i owned and with a modest $1200 price tag i couldnt help but pick up a bargain.

i want a 15w next so i can practice and gig with great tone.

I love my 15 watt Spider IV, it's a great practice amp. I'm going to upgrade the speaker to a Jensen C8R. I usually use headphones with it that cost as much as the amp. Sounds good to me, but I'm a child of the 80's and love all that processed $hit.

Does Line 6 suck at everything?

No, they just suck at practice amps.

The high-end PODs are pretty cool. The Vetta's nice but not my cup-o-tea. And PODFarm is great amp sim software.

People hate Spiders because for the same price you can get a Vypyr which does similar cleans, but like 3x better crunch and metal.

Also, as guitar players continue to learn their craft and learn about tone, they go realizing that Spiders/Vypyrs/MGs and the like sound pretty... well, bad.

They're not the worst amps in the world, but they are FAR from the best.

oh by the way the bt5 doesn't sound any better.
The blackstar's got more in common with the spider then a valve jr.
