That is the same set up I use and I couldn't be happier with it. The recto cab gives a really great bass response and projects extremely well.

I actually use an ISP Decimator for my noise gate and the thing is phenomenal. I put it right after my tuner in front of my amp and it killed all the noise from my EMGs. I use the normal version not the G string.

Go used, you can get a mint condition Mesa 4x12 for $500-$600.
Or 2x12 for $300-$400.
Same deal with the head; going used saves you ridiculous amounts of money.

You could get almost any stack you want for 2k. I got a bogner xtc half stack for like 1700 two months ago.

My advice:

Buy used. You'll get all that stuff for around a grand. You're just throwing away an extra thousand dollars by buying those new.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

This. Save some money to buy addition stuff. ISP Decimator would probably be the best buy, IMO.

Yeah, you could have got something a lot better for that money.

I got the regular decimator

Grats on the New Stuff Day.

With that money you could have found yourself a used VHT Pittbull 50 or Deliverance 60 and a used Mesa or Orange 212

Well, considering he got a Mesa 212... A used one is the same exact thing with some scratches on the tolex. If you're gonna be staring intently at your cab's details while you play, I can see how that might be something you want to avoid.
