learn some basic chords and scales watch some lessons to get a proper picking technique
try to play some simple songs don't stress yourself out with the hard stuff
most importantly have fun

Whatever acoustic you have (what is it?), get it setup by a tech, who can level the frets and adjust the action so it is easy for you to play.

Beginner guitars often have a high action, which makes them harder to play.

You may also want to try some coated strings, by elixir or DR etc, which tend to be a bit softer on your fingers, last longer too (much longer, which is why they are more expensive)
