Recently I've been trying to harmonize things and i've realized i'm really not that good. Do any of you have any tips on how to get better or little tricks on it? Any help is appreciated.

Man, thank God the russians created UG. Otherwise, how would I have gotten this information?

For most metal it's easiest, and sounds good, to harmonize with major and minor thirds. A simple way to figure out what to play, besides going with your ear, is to just look at the relative major to whatever minor key you're playing in.

For example, if you have a really simple lick in E minor, such as:

A:|------7--------9-------10--------9--|
E:|--0-------0--------0--------0-------|

Since you're playing E, F#, G which is the 123 in the E minor scale, take the relative major, G, and play the 123 in the G major scale (G, A, B):

A:|------10--------12-------14--------12--|
E:|--0-------0--------0--------0----------|

or

D:|------5--------7-------9--------7--|
A:|-----------------------------------|
E:|--0-------0--------0--------0------|

Hopefully this is helpful and can get you started. The options when it comes to harmonizing are pretty limitless and there's really no right or wrong way, it's all about what sounds good.
Let's party.
