is there a difference between a Silver leaf maple center with poplar wings vs Canadian Laurentian Basswood?

Also what is the difference between a Mexican strat vs an American one?

What is the best strat sounding guitar for $800 max?

i'd just save the extra 150 or so and get an fender american standard strat

The general rule of thumb is that American Strats are better made and use better hardware than Mexican Strats. I'm not totally convinced that's ALWAYS the case. You may be able to find a Mexican Strat that sounds better. If so, buy it. Otherwise, I bought an American version and I'd probably recommend the same thing to others. Try both and see what you like.

If you're getting a Strat, I say look for a Japanese one.
All the ones I've played have blown away the American ones.

They seem tighter and more useable than the USA ones, but others have also cottoned on to this and the prices are going up, up, up!
