First off, I am not advertising my Youtube channel here so as far as I know I am not breaking any rules.

Ok, I have been using Youtube frequently and uploading videos every couple of weeks for around a year now, although I have had Youtube for more like 3 years.

I have 50 videos with a total of about 20,000 views, and I have 25 subscribers.

I want to boost this as much as possible, I believe I have the potential as my videos tend to get rated highly and get positive comments.

I have linked my videos together with annotations, made the names and descriptions appealing, linked the videos to popular ones as responses, filled them with tags, made a customised background etc but not much seems to be happening.

What I don't understand is I come across people with 4 videos, less than 500 views total but with over 300 subscribers!

Oh also I would like to keep it legit, so I don't want to have to rename my videos as PORN XXX or anything.

Anyone give me some ideas?

Everyone wants to get known on Youtube, purely for the reason of getting known.

If you don't post anything amazing / unique / interesting, then its not gonna happen. Simple as.

4 of them are in my sig

The content is mostly covers of songs, but I am also starting to write and record originals.

Bottom two are the best in your sig IMO

Covers are a dime a dozen on Youtube, I doubt you will become popular doing the same old stuff.
I'm rgrockr and I do not approve of this message.

write originals not just covers.

20,000 views is good tbh...

I have 0 videos and 447 subscribers. I don't even know why they subscribed me, most looks like bots or fake accounts.

I like watching videos that are in HD, so I'd get a better camera (that's what YouTube is all about) and maybe even work from different angles. Also, you could do some mastering with the video (not sure what it's called with videos, but mastering must be close) to make it seem more professional.

I'm just saying that that's what I like to watch. Sound quality is good though.

1. Singing.
2. Acoustic covers of popular music. People nowadays are suckers for acoustic music, and an acoustic cover is cool.
3. Gear demoes. Instantly get more guitarists to visit your page with demoes of pieces of your gear that Gearmanndude hasn't already done!
4. Original material. People like an artist more than a cover band.
5. Social networking. Peter Frampton runs his Facebook page personally, and responds to various comments himself. It allows you to connect with your fans a lot easier. On that note,
6. Be excellent to your fans, and they'll be excellent to you. Answer their questions, respond to messages, reply to comments, treat them like friends instead of a target consumer and they'll love you.

Show clips of mildly entertaining videos and then make shit jokes about them, seems to be the way to the top. Doing more originals will probably help too. Most people take a while to build up on youtube. Unless you get something novelty up that can go viral, a really good, unexpected cover or something like that.

Be one of the first people to upload a new song on youtube, I remember a year ago or something only one guy had White Walls up, so it got so many views, but then when other people post it they don't get as many views even though it's long and technical.

As soon as the new Human Abstract album comes up (hopefully soon), try to tab one of the songs yourself and upload a cover and you'll probably get every progressive metal fan's view.
#28
Yeah, I tried to put up a song on YT because there wasn't the full version of it up there and it got removed...
#30
Maybe it's just me, but covers on Youtube seem to get a shit load of views.
#31
The quality of your videos automatically turned me off. Do something even a little bit creative with it and get better quality video. Your sound didn't seem that good either (although it was decent)

That's what I find, I don't want to sound full of myself but I come across covers of songs I've also covered that are of roughly equal skill and they have thousands of views, most of mine are lucky to hit 400

Well yeah I understand that if I covered songs by like Coldplay and Take That then I would probably get a lot more views but I don't like that sort of music, and as I said in my OP I want to keep it legit ie. Doing what I like doing rather than playing more popular music or tagging my videos with porn or whatever.

It's just luck really

Put a Fuzz Factory in you guitar, do a cover of Plug in Baby, and sit back while you get a million views in your first day from fanboys.

My friends have actually been getting pretty big, they have like 1400 subscribers. They mostly do trailer spoofs and fake PSA's.

You don't even have to take it that far. Maybe play some old school stuff (AC/DC, Zep, etc.). Metal has a very specific audience, so playing some stuff from a few other genres can usher in some new subscribers.

That said, I didn't watch your videos, and have no idea what exactly you're playing, but you get my point hopefully.

It's sort of ridiculous how much people market themselves for YouTube. (ZOMG SERIOUSLY CLICK ON THE LINK IN MY SIG TOO IT'S AWESOME YOU'LL LOVE IT. )

Get a schtick. Wear a hat or overalls or something. Anything unique. You'll be more memorable, because bedroom shredders (regardless of skill) are a dime a dozen, ESPECIALLY doing covers.

It sounds good man, I hear what you're trying to say. Just be patient, and enjoy the skill and sound you have.

srsly click mah linky
