Well then, i picked up a tasty little bad boy last night.

Vintage.

Pretty.

Rare.

Nice!

Ill hit you all with a flurry of photography before i go into details.

This is a 1977 Roland GA-60, a cousin of the famous JC-120. These were the standard of Rolands guitar amps of the time, and i think ive found something that sounds better than a JC. Has the original Fender speaker in her.

First off, its a SS. Like most rolands. So leave now if your a n00b.

The clean tone out of this thing is a phenom. Its a warmer, thicker, lusher sound than any Fender or Vox tube amp ive ever played.

The graphic EQ is footswitchable, so you can use it as a boost for solo's. The OD channel gives a nice fuzz, comparable to a vintage roland fuzz seen in the pics .

The reverb is a beautiful, deep, heavenly tank.

The compressor squeezes the tone nicely and loves the fuzz.

The bright switch doesnt do much...

Playing a vibe/chorus through this brings it to an upgraded JC-120.

Headphone/external speaker, effects loop, footswitchable reverb, eq, compressor and overdrive means there is no shortage of features.

The BEST thing ive found about it though, is that it has absolutely ZERO noise issues when playing! Not even the slightest hum/buzz other than the reverb tank if you bump it.

Originally these retailed for over $950 in 1977, which was an absolute bunch back then.

I stumbled across it for $400, which i got down to $250.

Better than a JC-120?? Are you planning on uploading a few clips? I've gotta hear it.

Liked the cleans, the dirt not so much.

I'd def use that as a cleans amp with an ABY setup, though.

I don't even know. I loved my JC-120H. That thing sounds phenomenal. I don't think I'd use it at a gig. It would make a killer studio amp though, especially if it doesn't have buzz. I really, really like it.

im still working out whether its broken or just really weak. going off what i know i think its working. i drowned it in the verb a little on the recording, but its a nice little fuzzy type tone.

good luck on that..
i was blown away by the tone.
the thing weighs a bunch, so i think the thickness has something to do with the deep tone.
