if you play blues n rock ill go for the strat, TIP- Go to your guitarcenter or w/e music store u go to and try all the mim strats. I literally mean ALL of them because they r all different. Pick the one you feel the best n buy it. You wont regret it.

les pauls r a nice choice but strats r more versatile.

apples and oranges.

have you played either guitar? because they feel so different to play.
you're sure to have a favorite if you try them.

well LPs feel completely different.

one has a trem, one a fixed bridge.
one is heavier.
one has a thicker flatter, neck and completely different fret access.

not to mention, the fact that one has humbuckers and one, single coil.

is there any way you can try an LP?

because i guarantee, if you try both, through the same amp, you won't need to ask.

i like strats. i might say, well, get a strat, better for jazz tones.
doesn't mean it's a good for for you. even if you get a strat with a humbucker in the bridge.

because the right pickups help, but your amp will shape your tones a lot more than your pups.

so get the guitar that you can play better.

then get the right model of the guitar style you chose to fine tune the tones.

the thing with stock MIM pups, they are a little weak for me.

i've got a lot of guitars, and i love my mex strat, but i swapped the pups out like 6 years ago.

i think, when i think of "warmth" i think more of an lp, or a semi hollow, big bodied guitar.

when i think chimey, bright, more high end quack, i think about strats.

doesn't mean you can't get a SSH strat with a humbucker.

or swap out the pups and pots for "warmer" tones.

but stock , out of the box, you'll get a heavier, fuller tone from the epi.

(which by the way, likes a pup change as well)

but again. some guys are just strat guys, and love the feel of the guitar.
some only like to play LPs.

so yeah, if you can find an lp, try one out and you'll know right away, which one feels right for you.

they're both solid guitars but it's possible to run into duds of both so trying them is the most important part. I have played strats of all calibur and a few different lps and they've all been good or great. You can't really go wrong but your amp is shit and if you want better sound thats where you should look.
