if you mike a blackheart little giant can you get nice cleans and a good overdriven tone while playing with a drummer? just for practice no gigging

Well, depends on what you think is a nice clean and overdriven sound, but seen from a technical point of view: yes.

But use a mike that's made for miking guitar amplifiers...

well i love the tone in the little giant and ive seen them get great cleans and overdriven tones. but ive only tested em in the store and not over a drummer. i want to invest because my budget is tight and i cant really get some crazy expensive amp. i was hoping the little giant could get a nice clean tone and more of a punk tone similar to bands like Dear Landlord and The Steinways. so no metal or anything. its either the blackheart or a blues jr. so far

get the blues jr. It'll save you the trouble of micing your amp everytime you need to practice.

yeah thats what i was thinking too. ive found a few on CL that are cheaper than the classic 30 which i was going after first. the valve king keeps popping up in my mind a lot too. also i found this: http://nh.craigslist.org/msg/1984432709.html anyone play one before?

It's a fairly old Solid-State amp. Since you're looking at the Blues Junior and Little Giant, it might not suit you.

yeah i did some research afterwards and saw that. im looking to move away from solid state haha. i found a guy selling a crate v50 for $200 usd. i bet i can still get to drop it a bit. ive read that they are great amps but ive also read that they burn out easily. is that true?

that's a decent amp, doubt you would need to mic it, ever. for $150-200 it's tough to beat. just test it out and make sure everything works and you like the tone.

i'd rather have that over a VK or classic 30 honestly. ymmv

If the guy who's selling the crate doesn't get back to me I'm gonna need to get a diff amp. Anyone play a bugera v22?
