this will most likely my last amp thread for a while.

here is what matters and what doesn't.

the wattage or amount of speakers DOES NOT matter in this decision.

the difference in price of $100 does not matter at all. it is no issue for me to pay $100 more for something if it fits me better.

i want something that would round out my collection of amps well and play on their weaknesses.

i will be able to get any of these new at 20%-25% off of price at musicians friend, but if i find a used one significantly less expensive than the new price with the discount i may condier going with it. so lets say >35% off of new price.

my existing amplifiers

Egnater Renegade - for those who done know, it can mix EL34's and 6L6's and has a stellar clean, awesome light to moderate dirt. i use this for my hard driven blues, and clean/dirty ambient sounds.

Orange Dual Terror - i use this for dirty cleans with compression. i use it for classic higher gain rock, and with a pedal for the brootz

Trace Elliot Speed Twin - i actually got if from somebody who is well known in the metal industry, and it was improted from the UK (never even sold in the US) and converted to 110V, and retubed by his tech. it does the best marshall crunch. its actually the reason i am not getting a splawn at this moment. so it does amazing brit overdrive needless to say.

Egnater Tweaker - at the moment this is my best fendery tone. i use it for a more tweed type fendery tone, also add compression, and have the gain really low and master really high so i can run it with more powertube distortion.

Jet City JCA2112RC - i plan on modding this, and mainly bought it for moding. it actually does sound pretty good, and was pleasently impressed.

then the metal amps, Valveking and Randall heads, which are both in the process of being sold for a 5150/6505/6505+.

what i am going to buy.

Fender Supersonic 1x12" $1100
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-SuperSonic-112-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=480874
benefit, i dont have a good fendery tone, and amazingly versatile.

Vox AC30
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Vox-Custom-AC30C2-30W-2x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=423618
everybody needs an AC amp, but downside is it would be third EL84 amp, but i would argue that it would sound very different than the Orange or the JCA (especially once modded).

Rivera Pubster
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rivera-Pubster-45W-1x12-Combo-Guitar-Amp?sku=486324
i like it a lot, but not as much as the others, i mainly have it up here for opinion.

How did people ever make decisions before they could bug random people on the internet to do it for them...

I'd get the Vox. I own my own AC30 and it's absolutely amazing.
Marshall amplifiers are the truest purveyors of rock and roll known to man.

the ac30 you listed has nothing in common with a good ac30.
the fender you listed has nothing to do with a good fender clean.
If you want to spend nearly a grand on a made in Mexico or China product I can't stop you.

Ok so for some reason I read that your budget was between 1100-1400 so this list might not actually work for you. But here's some stuff that exists for people to purchase.

Yes, the China made AC30s are nothing like mine: built in 1993 in England with English Celestion Blues... yeah, that being the case, I would definitely look at USED amplifiers.

i have posted an AC thread or two, and haven't gotten any solid recommendations on anything not current.

what are good vox Ac15 or AC30's? which years? which specific models?

i am suprised that there is not more love for the supersonic. that has to be my favorite amp i have heard at a gig in the last six monts. i heard a alt rock/ alt punk/ band used one and it was like an eargasm.

i will look into a bassman.

i never realized that you could search GC online like that. where do you go to find that? that is a major revelation adn really opens up my options. i always thought i was stuck on ebay and our really crappy craitslist, and even worse kijiji.

i love the matchless, but that is a little more than i want to spend. i love that first VHT. i love the Doc Z's.

i hear mesa's are good, i have only played a rec and a mark iii, and somehow i wasn't really impressed or it really wasn't what i was looking for. since i have learned that it takes a lot of tweaking, i would like to try them, but for tampa being such a big urban area, we have jack shit for guitar shops that carry good gear.

If you are going to buy a fender bassman, look for a used one from the late 60s or early 70s. You can find them on ebay and tons of gear selling sites.

You will probably find one for less than the RI and it will be MUCH better. PTP wiring, better construction and an amp that holds (or possibly increases) in resale value.

the circuts are completely different. you won't get a tweed bassman sound out of a blackface or a silverface.
