Okay, so I purchased a BRAND NEW Peavey 6505+ a few months ago, and I love it.

However, I've been reading up a lot about tubes and just out of curiosity decided to open up my preamp tube section. What I found was very surprising.

The far left two tubes (V4 and V3) are Electro Harmonix 12AX7s and the other four are JJ ECC83s.

To the extent of my knowledge, these are NOT stock 6505 tubes... So did I just get really lucky, or am I just horribly misinformed? The Power tubes are Ruby 6L6s just like they should be...

Thanks

Okay gotcha. I guess the amp just comes with better tubes than I thought!

Peavey just uses whatever happens to be in their tube bucket at the time, so yes, you just lucked out on preamp tubes.

Yeah, Peavey pretty much just sticks any tubes they have in the slots. I had a JJ ECC83 in my Valveking's V2.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean it's what's best for the amp tone-wise, but if you like it, you like it.

Ask anyone who works on Peavey amps or has one, or a few, they will tell you they ship them with shitty tubes, usually, and they are always just completely random.

It's usually just with preamp tubes, my Valveking came with Ruby tubes, but those burned out within a month of buying the amp. So any Peavey amp I would retube as quickly as possible, because it's really just hit and miss with the stock tubes.

Well yeah, as far as the amp goes tone-wise, I really like what I got! I may mess around with different tube configurations when it comes time to re-tube, but at least I know what the 6505+ sounds like with decent tubes already.
