I was just wondering, when the strings drop out of tune, do the machine heads move at all, if not, eventually could the strings break when tuning back to standard?

The reason I ask this is my strings are about 5/6 months old and are currently in Eb tuning, however if I tr to tune up, they are really tense and I am worried that they will break. The nearest guitar store to me is about 1 hour and a half away and so the earliest I will be able to go there is on the weekend and even if I order strings online, it won't be til the end of this week that I get them.

Would it be a safer bet to leave the strings in Eb and put a capo on the 1st fret or man up and tune them to standard, despite the fact that they feel like they will break?

^Yeah. Just go slowly if you're afraid they'll snap.
