I stumbled across this stellar chunk of wood at a local rummage store/flea market. $20 out the door.

The artist had carved this into it:

I had no idea what type of wood it was, only that it was big enough for a body or two, and all one piece.

Stripped off the back to reveal that ^^

Certainly not high-grade, but very well seasoned at least!
yeah I said it. What.

I quickly turned it into this:

Leaving the artists work as intact as possible.

...and whipped up a Padouk neck with banana headstock.

yeah I said it. What.

The little details make this guitar amazing.

The way that you've done the cavity access stuff on the side so that you didn't destroy the back art. That is very impressive

I was kind of hoping the artwork would've been the front. But none the less that thing is sweet. Genius idea having the access covers on the side.
#13
I think leaving the carving on the back was the right idea, at least then it didnt get covered by all the hardware, the side access cavities were a very elegant solution to leaving the work intact too, great work!

Stay classy, pit.

The only real answer to the SG vs Les Paul debate is to get a Flying V and laugh at all the suckers who don't have one.

Great build. Here's a tip: if you're looking for cheap ivory for inlay work, hunt around for old, broken pianos. Sometimes the really old ones have actual ivory for their keycaps.

Thats what I told the wifey back in the day !! >_<
Thanks for the kind words y'all . I debated ( master-debated? ) for a week or so about the art. Leave it, sand it off, front or back.... I decided to leave it, and put it on the back so its an added surprise. I didn't want a pickguard, so the side routs ( the only ones I've ever done ) were the solution , but a bit of a PITA. Well worth it tho.
It's defitintely one of my best sounding guitars.

what does the shipping pallet one sound like?? Also did you just kinda glue all the parts together to make it big enough??
