Howdy ho.

I'm after a 7 string so i can play bands such as High On Fire by using the top 6 strings and excluding the high E. (This way i don't have to buy a 6 string and load ub3rly heavy strings onto it)

I'm really not familiar with any 7 string models as i have been a 6 string player all my life. (I am aware of all of Schecter's models, so preferably recommend other brands)

Active pickups definitely are not my preference, but don't hesitate to reccomend quality guitar's that are equipped with them.

Any reccomendations are appreciated I'm into Sludge/Prog metal mostly (Think Mastodon, High On Fire, Protest The Hero) and use a british voiced amp...cheers

I recommend a RG7621 or a RG7421. Hard tail MIJ 7 string guitar. I snagged my RG7420 (trem version of the RG7421) for $500. Shouldn't be too hard to find one on the interwebs.

Stock pickups are terrible, but after a pickup swap, you'll have some bitchin' axe

schecter has some awesome mid-ranged guitars. a lot of the lower priced 7 strings have passives and are non-trems

I'd recommend looking up a RG7421 or a RG7621. There discontinued (as off 2000?) so you'll have to go used, but it kicks the current RG7321/RGA7's in the ass imo.

If you don't want to go used, check out the RGD7321 or RGA7.

Its good to see another Perthian!

Whats your budget mate?

Haha same to you my man

And probably no more than $500 stock, considering mods will be made after.

You'll probably want to look around mate. The current low/mid range 7's cost about $1000 in Australia and about $600 shipped from the US. I recommend looking around, and take your time looking for 7s too.

I'd definitely recommend you to look on the used section on sevenstring.org

Feel free to comment me on my profile mate, I've got to go

If you can find one in Australia for a good price (which I've heard is hard as balls) then I'd suggest either an Agile Septor , an ESP/LTD MH-417 or SC-607 , depending on price and availability. They mostly all have active pups except for a few Septors, but they're all solidly built. I wouldn't recommend buying directly from Rondo due to about $150 - $200 in shipping, but if you do make sure to do it through their eBay store so that you are protected. If none of these are available or are out of your price range, then probably just look at some used Ibanez or Schecter 7s, which should be relatively plentiful compared to Agile and ESP.

I'd say Agiles bro.

TS's location is Australia, there is absolutely no point to him getting an Agile.

Shipping, tax and import charges. Would be absolutely massive and completely eliminate any value gained from buying an Agile.

Agile's would be absolutely perfect for me, but they are so expensive to ship over. I know there is one store in perth that stocks them but i am not sure about prices.

Thats completely incorrect.

Agile, Ibanez

Washburn used to make them

Dean has one in their Vendetta series, but I'd steer clear of it.

I have a RG7421 for sale. It has upgraded DiMarzio X2N7.

Not true, not in any country. Sometimes you can just luck out and find your package got through customs without being checked over properly so you missed out on nasty import charges but if they actually check it they'll charge you import duty on anything over AUD$24. The UK's got it a little better, the starting point is £18. Other European countries range from €12 to €108. For America it's something like $15 and Canada it's around the $20 mark, I believe.
