OK! Hypothetical situation:

If you could only smell one smell for the rest of your life, what would it be?

simple as that.

I'm not talking about smelling it all the time (since sometimes smell is just neutral) but everytime you get new stimuli, you'll smell THAT smell.

example:

If I chose to only smell freshly baked bread, then I wouldn't smell it most of the time. If I scratch my balls and the sniff my fingers, I'd smell the bread. If I suddenly walked into a pine forest it would smell like bread. If I went down on a sweaty, rather corpulent lady ... it would smell like freshly baked bread.

What odour would you choose?

Bacon.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

Fat girls wash more, IMO. Just saying. >.>

I'd like to smell... those strawberry cream sweet things. Can't find em anymore. Think they were called Campinos? Tasty.

EDIT: Carex handwash is the bomb.

Got it in the OP. Fresh baked bread. Feels good man.

Honourable mentions to freshly cut grass and rain.

EDIT: Oh, and clean sheets that have been dried in the sun.

DON'T MAKE ME DESTROY YOU!

Easily Bacon. Food of the Gods.

I'd rather have none than only one because it would drive me crazy.

It would take you about 5 minutes and then you wouldn't even notice it anymore.

I buy a specific kind of incense from a local shop, it's called Dragon's Blood, and I'd love to smell it for the rest of my days.

Dragon's Blood smells absolutely terrible. In the world of incense, Dragon's Blood is like the bacteria growing on a patch of mold underneath the skeleton of a medieval pedophile and his youthful gathering.

Hmm...I would say rain. There are many wonderful smells in the world, but something like coffee would be too heavy a scent all the time.

That's not true. TS said you would only smell it when there would be a strong smell rather than a neutral smell. Desensitization wouldn't be that easy.

You know this from experience? Because I doubt it. Much easier to reduce sensory retardation by eliminating the olfactory abilities altogether. Taste is pretty dependent on smell. It would be interesting to taste what things don't smell like.

that would be total mind****.
You could perhaps compare it to toast. Toast smells like shit but tastes delicious. Also when you open a package of pre-packed slice meats - it smells like absolute shit, but ye.... tastes good man.

New hypothetical question:

If the smell would always be the same; would that mean that it would taste the way it smelled? I'm not that orientated in biology, but the sense of smell and the sense of taste are correlated, right?

Ever noticed how other people's houses smell and yours doesn't? That's because you're used to it.

But that's because your scent and your home's scent becomes a neutral one. TS said excluding neutral scents.

Only subjectively. It's not neutral to other people, your olfactory nerves are simply so used to picking up certain particles that the brain ignores them. So if you could only smell one smell forever, pretty quickly you'd not be able to smell anything because your brain would filter it out.

Have you ever sanded oak so hard it began to burn a bit, and give off that popcorny smell?

Yeah, that, or just a general wood workshop aroma.

Since my home is already a neutral smell, as is my dorm and the areas where I spend most of my time, they've become discounted as stimuli. But that's just the way I understood the OP, that from now on, new stimuli (that pertain to smell, obviously) smell like your choice we aren't really arguing here.
