Hey I have been playing for about 2 years now and I have just started into soloing. And personally I think it sounds good. But I just cant get myself to skip strings or change octaves without having some sort of chord or slide. I dont know why it is and I cant seem to break the habit. If anyone can help me on this it would greatly help my solos a lot!!

The best way to break this habit is to...

Stop doing it lol. Seriously, there's no magic trick, just start making it happen. You've gotta go slow and make it happen. Practice soloing over backing tracks, get in a groove, then switch strings/octaves till it feels comfortable. that's what I'd say to do.
