I'd stick with a JSX, make sure it has EL34's in it.

If you want more of a raw sound, maybe a JCM800, you'd have to boost it. Not sure what the heads go for used though.

Another option is a Peavey Windsor, it's a really cool JCM800 clone. It's very cheap though, you could mod the crap out of it and make a really really good amp out of it if you went that route. Not sure if you want to bother that much.

I'm mostly a Peavey guy as you can see, maybe someone else will come and give you some more insightful opinions. TBH I'm not too familiar with any of those guys's tones other than BLS.

Windsor's cheap, it's a good option. A JCM is a bit out of your budget though. Amps tend to hold their value better than guitars as they're harder to damage.

You could also look at Traynor. They're not really metal amps, but I've found that they're among the more versatile out there and I'm really impressed by them. Plus they're relatively cheap.

Also, is this for gigs? Or garage use? Or bedroom use? Do you even have a band?
