Practice them ridiculously slowly with a metronome.

I find that conciously choosing which pickstroke to use requires a very slow tempo at first, so you probably need to play your exercises at around 25 BPM for a while (assuming you're playing the notes as 16ths) to get the pickstroke into your muscle memory.

I didn't really know how to call that, but I do it a lot when preocuppied. Jusst do a Power Chord and do this a lot(ANYWHERE on the fretboard):
