How do you guys do it?
Picking the right chord progressions?
I know there's the simple answer, but nothing I ever create ever feels right.
Any help?

For me, it's just a question of experimenting/trial and error. Just play around with different chords until you find a combonation that you like.

Think of a really cool riff in your mind and then keep trying to play it until you can get it. Then you can expand on it and some extra notes notes here and there to spice it up a little.

Practice, practice, practice.
I usually don't chose a chord progression to make a riff over. If I do that, then the riff I make always becomes really generic and boring. Thats just me though.

I used to really suck at making stuff that wasn't totally generic a few years ago. But after just noodling around trying to create songs, I've become a whole lot better at writing good original stuff.
