when you're re-stringing, to you pull the string tight and lock down, or do you keep some slack, lock down, and then wind the string a few times around the post?

The second, you want to have enough slack to wrap the string around the pegs AT LEAST 3 times.

Not with locking tuners you don't.

Pull the string tight, lock it down. You should have about 1/4 to 1/2 of a full turn until it's in tune.

I find it stays in tune better with no windings, but I'm sure I'm running the risk of the string getting pulled out (edit: or maybe not according to the previous post). Hasn't happened yet though (using Planet Waves Trim Loks).
