Alright, question that needs a rather quick answer

I just put new input jacks in my valveking, and reassembled the amp. Problem is, I dont think I put it back together the right way. All of the tubes have a glow to them, so I know they're connected right, but on the gain channel all i get is an exceptionally loud clean sound with no bite.

Any idea wtf I did wrong?

You prolly didn't seat a preamp tube right, take off the covers and make sure they are pushed in all the way. I'm guessing V2 since that's the gain stage, and V2 would be that middle tube, the one towards the back, but before the one next to the transformer.

I checked it, its all seated right. Should it matter which one is in which position? They're all stock preamp tubes, I haven't gotten the money to change em just yet. So two electro harmonix and one weird little red one I cant remember the name of. I know the red one is in the V2 stage.

Well bad tone is better than an amp but doesn't work =3
It's worth swapping them round tho, just so you can tell if it is actually a bad tube or not, so you know whether you need to replace it =]

Noticed a slight gain increase, but its still ridiculously loud. It was not this loud before. Clean channel works fine. Does this mean the preamp socket itself is shot?

i take it you tried all the combinations of swapping them round?
well i don't know alot about tube amps, but it does seem like there's something wrong with the socket. take it to a tech and get their opinion on it, and then maybe get them to fix it if they don't charge too much

Yeah I did, fixed nothing ;_;

Yeah thats the problem, I have zero money and I've spent months trying to get this damn thing to work. Problem being this is my only amp, and without it I'm sorta shit outta luck.

Yeah I'll probably take it to an amp tech. Provided they don't charge out the ass.

Thanks guys

All I did was replace the input jacks. I checked the joints, they're solid. I didnt remove or really add much solder. The existing solder held it in place perfectly.
